Your Questions

Hello. I am studing to be archaeologist and I was wondering about something. There have been events when we recover coffins sealed in lead and when it is opened the body is prefect. Such as with the queen Catherine Pare. I was wondering if the lead had something to do with it. Thanks for the help. KAREN
I am not qualified to answer your question. A lot depends on whether some form of embalming was practiced, whether the remains were in a dry area and whether the body was sealed in the type of container you describe very shortly after death. Although I know lead was used in lots of stuff in years past, I do not know if the lead would have anything to do with the preservation. Note: sealing the casket would limit the action of aerobic bacteria but do nothing to stop anaerobic bacteria. Sorry I can't be of more help.
