Dimond And Sons, Silver Bell Chapel

Your Questions

Can I have the funeral for my grandmother in my house?
I wouldn't see why not. The locations for funeral ceremonies should be selected by the family of the deceased. While it is most often a church, synagogue or funeral home chapel in the U.S., many families have private services in their home. Most residences are not set up to accomodate a casket, flowers, register stand and other equipment required for a home viewing and funeral, but I have done a few. Years ago, virtually all funerals involved the deceased lying in state at their home. The development of the funeral home was not a creation of undertakers, but a demand by the public that was accepted very quickly throughout the country. Incidentally, the bay window was not just an aesthetic architectural feature; it was where the casket was placed in the parlor.
